| Kamloops was kind of boring. It reminded me a lot of sun
river. THe mill was ok i guess, I pretend to be excited for all
the work guys :-x
I am going to spend about $800 after rebates with shipping on my
computer. Essentially I'm going to blow an entire paycheck on my
computer to upgrade it seriously.

about $820 with shipping, plus theres a $30 mail in rebate. I think its a pretty good deal for all I'm getting.
I realised today I kind of dropped off the face of the earth, so even
when I'm playing WOW I'm going to try to make na effort to be online so
people can not message me :p

| Works been pretty fun. I'm going up to Kamloops tomorrow for a
few days to take a look at the new generator they are putting in up
there.
BACK OUT OF EXISTANCE!

| So this week has been pretty fun. I've been spending my time this
week talking to engineers of every discipline trying to learn as much
as I can about how all the different disciplines work together.
It's really interesting. I get friday and monday off, which will
be really good (two days to sleep in, plus get some shopping done for
some things I need) and I get paid for it.
I have to do this stupid online thing for safety evaluation, and I cant
do it until i get an ID number. So this week i've been pretty
much sitting on my ass doing nothing aside from talking to people and
learning the programs I need to learn to do my job. So far theres
a lot of info on Arc Flash Hazard analysis on my desk. What's Arc
Flash Hazard?
http://www.ferrazshawmut.com/arcflash/arc_background/hazards.cfm
Simply put, its a big ass lightning bolt that kills your ass, and it
happens when you short too much current across a transformer.
Theres a tremendous amount of energy just waiting for some way to get
to ground. Lots of time ground = you. Now try that with a
12.8kV line XD
anyway, Trying to take it easy, but its been pretty long days for
me. Hey, at least I get paid for it, but theres about 2 or 3
hours of down time a day that i've been trying to kill. Most of
that has been me doing stuff in autoCAD or EasyPower trying to learn
the software.
k back to goofing off. Theres a 7 year old at this house who does
nothing but talk. It's really getting on my nerves...
| | |
| Whoa Nelly! And not the rapper.
So I DEFINATLY got the hookup this summer. BREAK IT DOWN!
The house: Reminds me a lot of my Grandfathers house.
Essentially where I'm living is very much like a 1 story
appartment. The retired couple I'm living with (who seem very
cool by the way) Do a lot of traveling, so the possibility of me having
the entire house to myself is a definate one. I think they
mentined that they were going to be traveling the month of july, so
hey, thats good news for me.
Pretty much its a bedroom that's all mine. Most likely I'll look
at setting up my computer there. Theres a study type room,
shared, a living room type room, shared, and a kitchen/laundry
room. First, I cant say how nice it's going to be to have a
freeking washer and dryer within walking distance. Hey look, I
have a load of laundry to do. No more getting quarters and
waiting for it to pile up! Secondly, I basically have my own
kitchen, which again is going to be nice since I can actually
cook. w00t.
The Office: I get my own cubical. Sweet. Own
computer. Sweet. Right next to my supervisors and
bosses. Sweet. Turns out im working at the same company
within the same proximity of an 80 some year old engineer who went to
OSU and is in the Engineering Hall Of Fame. Booya. Yes its
nerdy to like that, but I'm a nerd. Pretty much everyone there is
excited to have me working there, and they kept telling me how good of
an interview I had. So go me.
The Pay: $18/hour + $25/day, 7 days a week. Thats right, I
get living paid for. I'm going to net $750/month or so for
living, and rent is only $450. This leaves me a wonderful $300 to
spend aside from my normal pay. Only part that bites is I still
have to pay for my appt down in corvallis. However, what I made
from Hovland last month should cover July, August is free since we
renewed our lease, and September, eh, I'll pretty much be back by then.
The Local: Tacoma, WA, right by the bay. 20 minute drive to
work, No need to get on the freeway. Pretty sweet deal if you ask
me. I'll have to see about getting some pics of my living up
sometime.
So yeah, me = pleased. As Thayer keeps telling me, Bill =
Winner. I totally agree. Oh and the internet thing?
They have cable, I just supply a wireless router and again, me =
winner. Thayer was kind enough to give me a wireless card for my
desktop, so no need to rig the network. I'm leaving Cow Town
Saturday, then heading up there Sunday. I'll need to do some
shopping when I get up there so I can eat for a few days, but other
than that I should be back online by the evening.
And I'm off!
